If you have type I then you have to be extremely careful with regards to your nutrition as extra care needs to be taken in monitoring blood sugar levels. High blood sugars can be lowered and regulated by eating regular meals and spacing out carbohydrates.
Nutrition for those who have type I should include carbohydrates and proteins which play an important role in nutrition and should be consumed regularly while the intake of fats should be lowered. The regular intake of carbohydrates and especially those which are rich in fiber will help to reduce high blood sugar levels, reduce weight loss and will help you to feel fuller and therefore less hungry longer. However it is important to note that with regards to nutrition that carbohydrates play an important role in that in that too many can increase blood sugar levels.
The Food Pyramid divides food into six groups. The largest group and therefore what you should consume most consists of lean protein, breads, grains and starches, so your carbohydrates. The smallest group and therefore what you should consume least consists of fats, sweets and alcohol.
For weight loss in type 1 diabetes it is important to know what foods to eat, when to eat and food combinations. It is also vital to now when to adjust your food intake according to when your blood sugar levels are either low or high.
The American Medical Association recommends everyone supplement there nutritional needs with nutritional supplements. Nutritional supplements and certain herbs have been found to be very beneficial for diabetics.
